Looking for a place to have your quick brunch fix? Looking for the right ambience to hang with your girls over cocktails? Sunnies Cafe Megamall will surely be your go-to cafe! Heima and Heim Interiors was tapped by the Sunnies team, after successful projects for Sunnies Specs in Glorietta, UP Town Center, and a few kiosk stands. Sunnies Cafe’s newest branch is born, making its exciting appearance in the middle of a bustling area in Megamall.
Sunnies Cafe is an extension of their brand to a coffee shop that displays fashion forward and iconic aesthetics. The Heim Interiors team comprised of Creative Director Rossy Rojales, and Design Associates Kim Tan and Shyl Ricohermoso, were able to quickly grasp what the Sunnies team envisioned as well as supervise in detail the execution to meet the timeline for a launch today. With the Sunnies team that started it’s company based in fashion, they made sure to reflect their innovation through the interiors of the cafe, the graphic design elements, even down to the food, and presentation. They take comfort food to a whole nother level with a menu that offers it’s own twist on its ingredients as well. All of these bring together a cafe that celebrates a certain energy and liveliness that is much seen in Sunnies Cafe Megamall.
Perspective for Sunnies Cafe
Behind the finished product, was constant communication and planning between the Sunnies Studios and Heim Interiors team. The goal for Creative Director, Rossy Rojales and designers, Kim Tan and Shyl Ricohermoso was for the cafe to empower the brand of Sunnies as they expand. According to Rossy, “The design challenge really is to make this cafe nothing like the rest because the clients did not want Sunnies Cafe to just be any other cafe. In the center, where people walk along the mall, the look of the Sunnies Cafe makes passerbys turn their heads towards the cafe and feel curious about it.”
Sunnies Cafe is a picture taken right off the LA scene in the 1950’s where Scandinavian design was very much celebrated. Up until today, you can still see Scandinavian design elements in old cafes and restaurants there. Scandinavian design mixed with the thrill of California culture brings you a trendy and fashion forward design with a classic touch. Simplicity and function is the guiding light of Scandinavian design which was signifcant in this cafe.
“As a designer, our goal is to always make sure that there is an improvement in all the projects we do. So even before we started Sunnies Cafe Megamall, we visited the BGC branch and studied what could be improved for the newest branch.”
Once you step into the cafe, it’s like you’re transformed back to Palm Springs in the 1950’s. From a design standpoint, they made sure to take into consideration the right mood for lighting, space planning, and all the materials used to revolve around the concept of the cafe.
Regarding the mood of the place Rossy says, “It’s just a straight to the point, chill, lounge feel.” Cozy lighting is created to a mood thats fit for the cafe. With a company that started in fashion, they didn’t fail to take into consideration the color palette to use for the cafe to set the mood and concept right. Dusty rose, muted blue tones, and neutrals to balance everything out.
According to Rossy, “Since we wanted it to be a unique cafe, we had to make the design almost 80% custom made. The tiles, the handles, all custom furniture.” Having custom made furniture surely supports the idea of the cafe even more.
Rossy stresses the importance of a good lighting design. The kind of lighting is what sets the mood to any place. Rossy required all of the lights to be non glare. A lot of ambient light was needed to set the mood.
When it comes to acoustics, the designers made sure to take that into consideration as well. All of the tables have foam under the to lessen the noise from the other customers. This is important to set the right mood in the cafe.
Since the market of Sunnies Cafeis mostly going to be in groups, the designers made sure to have a flexible floor plan. There is no fixed seating area so if there are groups, they can easily have the tables combined. There’s no problem if you want to come in a big group or to come to spend some quality time alone.
The cafe is a meer extension of the lifestyle that the Sunnies brand sells. In addiction, Scandinavian style interior design really does boast of a timeless, fresh, and elegant style – one that is streamline, yet feels welcoming. Its sleek lines and neutral palette are essentially timeless and add a sense of elegance to its design.
