Located two doors up from our Brixton showroom, BAKERĒ is the newest neighbor in the building. Since their opening, the café has been the setting for many team and client meetings. One rainy afternoon, we took time to sit down with BAKERĒ’s owner, Rj, and listened to the café’s story.
BAKERE’s famous Cheese Cupcake and Vicerin.
BAKERĒ’s story began long before they opened their doors in Brixton. In 1975, Rj’s mom, called Tita E, opened a bakeshop from their home in New Manila. Here, Tita E served up fresh baked goods and pastries, including her most sought-after cheese cupcakes.
For years, wherever Tita E and the family went, Tita E’s loyal customers and friends followed. Friends of the family would drop in for meals at the house; sometimes by invite and other times out of sheer whim. Seeing how much friends enjoyed his mom’s cooking, it was only a matter of time before Rj decided to look for space to share his mom’s delectable baked goods.
A space just like home.
The initial plan was to open a bakeshop. A simple pick up point for fans of Tita E’s baked goods. But a trip to their present Brixton space, Rj decided to open up a cafe instead. To create the menu, Rj solicited the help of his cousin, a chef previously based in Singapore. Together they worked on building the menu with family recipes they enjoyed while growing up.
Goat Cheese Salad and BXU
The experience Rj and his team provide, is the same care and experience you would get in their family home. For example, all bacon used in their recipes is made from scratch every week in their kitchen. Large communal tables make it easy to share dishes and fit everyone in. Artwork and accessories scattered around the space are gifts from family and friends. While a dear friend made the chairs, tables, and shelves.
A meal at BAKERĒ is best enjoyed with friends and family. But if you’re coming in alone, expect a warm welcome, exactly how you’d be welcomed into a dear friend’s house. We’re happy we can call this café two doors up, neighbor.
BAKERĒ Cafe is in Three Brixton Building, Brixton Street, Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City.
